Wet and Wavy hair extensions are a machine-wefted brand that uses natural human hair. These extensions have the great bonus that they become wavy, not straight, when you get them wet. Like any other human hair extensions, Wet and Wavy hair needs special products to look its best and last a long time. Using the right mousse can help your Wet and Wavy extensions produce an attractive natural wave and look great. Mousse Basics Hair mousse is a styling product that gives your hair extra shine and volume. It comes either as a foam spray or a cream, and probably gets its name from its resemblance to the rich chocolate dessert. Hair mousse is relatively lightweight, so it won't weigh down your Wet and Wavy braids. It produces a wet look but doesn't create the strong definition associated with hair gels. Most mousse contains a solvent, a propellant, hold agents similar to those in hairspray, control agents and fragrance. Low Alcohol Many mousse products use alcohol as their primary solvent – the stuff the hold agents are dissolved in. These products will damage your Wet and Wavy braids a lot quicker than low-alcohol or alcohol-free mousse. That's because the alcohol dries out the cuticle on the extensions. Extensions aren't attached directly to your scalp, so they don't benefit from the natural oils that keep your own hair soft and manageable. Look for water-based mousse that won't hurt your extensions. Conditioning Action Even when treated carefully, hair extensions lose moisture quickly. Wet and Wavy products are no exception. Conditioning mousses include moisturizing ingredients that keep your hair from tangling or breaking as easily. When you use them with the occasional leave-in conditioner treatment, they make sure your extensions stay soft and easy to handle. Correct pH Natural hair has a pH, or acidity level, of 5 to 5.5. This is mildly acidic. Many hair-care products are mildly to significantly alkaline, however. They can roughen up the little scales on your hair, making it dry out more quickly and tangle more easily. Alkaline mousse does serious damage. Look for acidic mousses with a pH range of 4 to 6 to keep the cuticle on your hair extensions flat and smooth.
